Summary

The 'New York Times' and 'USA Today' bestselling author of 'The Huntress' and 'The Alice Network' returns with another heart-stopping World War II story of three female code breakers at Bletchley Park and the spy they must root out after the war is over。

1940。 As England prepares to fight the Nazis, three very different women answer the call to mysterious country estate Bletchley Park, where the best minds in Britain train to break German military codes。 Vivacious debutante Osla is the girl who has everything - beauty, wealth, and the dashing Prince Philip of Greece sending her roses - but she burns to prove herself as more than a society girl, and puts her fluent German to use as a translator of decoded enemy secrets。 Imperious self-made Mab, product of east-end London poverty, works the legendary codebreaking machines as she conceals old wounds and looks for a socially advantageous husband。 Both Osla and Mab are quick to see the potential in local village spinster Beth, whose shyness conceals a brilliant facility with puzzles, and soon Beth spreads her wings as one of the Park’s few female cryptanalysts。 But war, loss, and the impossible pressure of secrecy will tear the three apart。

1947。 As the royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip whips post-war Britain into a fever, three friends-turned-enemies are reunited by a mysterious encrypted letter - the key to which lies buried in the long-ago betrayal that destroyed their friendship and left one of them confined to an asylum。 A mysterious traitor has emerged from the shadows of their Bletchley Park past, and now Osla, Mab, and Beth must resurrect their old alliance and crack one last code together。 But each petal they remove from the rose code brings danger - and their true enemy - closer。 。

Another amazing historical fiction book by Kate Quinn。 Wow did I learn a lot about code breakers during WWII in England。 And to learn about Prince Phillip was fun too。 Fantastic and super interesting read

I always enjoy Kate Quinn's novels, and this one was no exception。 I didn't like it quite as much as The Huntress, but it was still an engaging story that opened my eyes to WWII codebreakers and the role they played in Britain's war efforts。 I felt invested in the three main characters' lives (I really loved Osla), and they were so well-developed and dynamic。 The story did move a bit slowly in the middle, but the ending made up for it。 I also appreciated the real connection to Duchess Kate and t I always enjoy Kate Quinn's novels, and this one was no exception。 I didn't like it quite as much as The Huntress, but it was still an engaging story that opened my eyes to WWII codebreakers and the role they played in Britain's war efforts。 I felt invested in the three main characters' lives (I really loved Osla), and they were so well-developed and dynamic。 The story did move a bit slowly in the middle, but the ending made up for it。 I also appreciated the real connection to Duchess Kate and the Middleton family。 。。。more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 Coincidentally, I was nearing completion when Prince Philip died。 As I listened to the news stories about his life, I was pleased to see the overlap with the events in the book。

About 200 pages too long。 Starts slow but you get into it! Overall enjoyed the read, just a little too long。

Like all of Kate’s books, this was compelling from page one。 Based on women code breakers from WWII, it’s a wonderfully complex and well woven story。

I had been staying away from historical fiction set during WW2 for a while, but I decided to delve back on for this story about 3 female code breakers。 It’s a daunting 624 pages, but the pages turned quickly for me, with short chapters and jumping back and forth in time, which kept me guessing what was going to happen。 Some plot points I saw coming a long way off, and some took me genuinely by surprise。 Of course, there was the main situation of the seemingly impossible task of breaking the Germ I had been staying away from historical fiction set during WW2 for a while, but I decided to delve back on for this story about 3 female code breakers。 It’s a daunting 624 pages, but the pages turned quickly for me, with short chapters and jumping back and forth in time, which kept me guessing what was going to happen。 Some plot points I saw coming a long way off, and some took me genuinely by surprise。 Of course, there was the main situation of the seemingly impossible task of breaking the German code, and it seemed obvious that they would break it, so in some ways it took a long way going about it。 Along the way。 These three woman create a unique bond, and their relationships became the most interesting aspect of this novel to me, the code breaking becoming more of a background。 The final chapters got a bit melodramatic for me, it’s a bit of a wild caper which sort of lost me somewhere along the way。 But overall an enjoyable read。 。。。more

I loved this book。 Kate Quinn does a marvelous job telling the story of the brave and undervalued women who worked at Bletchley Park。 The stories of Mab, Osla and Beth were riveting and just as I finished the book I learned of the passing of Prince Philip, who made several appearances in the story。I was engaged in this story from the first page。

I love Quinn for her ability to a) blend fiction with researched facts, b) manipulate the structure of a novel to ramp up ridiculous suspense, and c) create characters you love, even the ones you hate。Funny, horrifying, gripping, informative: you really ought to read this book。

What a disappointing mess! From the moment I heard that Kate Quinn had a new book coming out, I was eager to read it because I had enjoyed her previous book, The Huntress。 But from almost the first sentences of The Rose Code, I knew it was a fluffy book, not serious historical fiction。 In The Rose Code, three very different young women are brought together by a promising job。 It is 1940 and two of them begin working at the top secret Bletchley Park mansion, north of London, to help Britain decod What a disappointing mess! I have to admit it took me a few chapters to really get into this one but when I did I couldn't put it down。 Hands down one of the best historical fiction WWII novels I have read。 The research, character development, and storyline drew me in so deep that I am now incredibly sad that I finished it。 Highly recommend。 I have to admit it took me a few chapters to really get into this one but when I did I couldn't put it down。 Hands down one of the best historical fiction WWII novels I have read。 The research, character development, and storyline drew me in so deep that I am now incredibly sad that I finished it。 Highly recommend。 。。。more

Loved reading about Bltchley Park。 Quinn did an amazing job of creating characters from some real and created people。 Using a mashup of real people, and historicaltime frames she nailed it。 Loved the secondary storyline of why the girls fell out of favor and their coming together to capture a treasonist spy amongst their group。 Excellent read。

Pretty goodInteresting and enlightening story about British codebreakers during WWII。 Mostly about the female ones。 Maybe a little too drawn out and the last 20% of the book got too movie-ish。

I can’t even remember the last time I read a 600+ page book, but this one was worth every page! Time almost stood still while I blazed through the last 200 pages this afternoon。 Two time periods were represented, but they were only seven years apart。 Little bits of information and intrigue were released in the more recent period。 I’d estimate 5/6 of the novel was devoted to the earlier period and the development of the characters and the scenario which needed to be resolved。 There were triumphs, I can’t even remember the last time I read a 600+ page book, but this one was worth every page! What a beautifully tragic war time story filled with love, loss, friendship and betrayal。 Kate Quinn has created a masterful piece yet again。 I felt so connected to all of the characters, feeling joy with their happiness as well as being destroyed in times of their losses。 I have a feeling this story will stick with me for a very long time!5*

This book is exactly what I love about historical fiction -- great story and strong characters。 The story about three very different women who work together to break German codes during the war。 I remember when Bletchley Circle was just opened up to the public a couple years back。 This book brings that area alive and helps understand the importance of it。 If you read just one historical fiction novel this year, this is the one to read!
